THE EXCHANGE CEREMONY – GHANA

ILLINOIS BLACK CAUCAUS FOUNDATION

HISTORIC TRIP TO GHANA JAN -2023

Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe: Togbi Nyaho Tamaklo VI in collaboration with Sena, founder of The Progressive Minds Show, honored the Reverend Jesse Jackson as the First King of the African Diaspora in July 2022 at the 2nd Annual Exchange Ceremony in Chicago. During his remarks, Togbi encouraged the Diaspora family to return home, promising them land and a sense of belonging. This gesture is a true testament to the commitment to our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora to welcome them back to their land, roots, heritage, culture and the restoration of their royalty.

As a part of the vision to honor and embrace our brethren in America, we organized and facilitated 20 legislators of the Illinois Black Caucus Foundation to visit Ghana. This was the first of its kind to Ghana’s Volta Region. Through our efforts two of the delegates were made honorary Chiefs: Togbi Coy Pugh and Queen Mother Carol Ammons. Part of their visit to Ghana involved a trip to see the Ex-President of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, the King of Greater Accra – Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. Amidst other tourist sites, they also visited the historic Fort Prinzentein.

The Awoamefia is the Overlord of the Anlo Kingdom. His reception/blessings of the legislators from Illinois was central to the importance of the kevent held in honour of our diaspora family. The Chief of Keta, Togbi James Ocloo assisted the Awoamefia and was responsible for bestowing the titles and responsibilities of the Honorary Torgbui  and Honorary Mama of Keta, Anlo Kingdom. The Rev. Gifty Lamptey and her children; Beatrice, Penelope and Kojo Jones also played key roles in welcoming the Diaspora to their homeland Anlo. We extend our gratitude to them.
